Buyers must insure that the seller has the right to sell the goods advertised For Sale. All details displayed are as received from the person/company advertising the item/s for sale. No responsibility can be taken for errors or omissions, all errors and omissions should be notified straight away and will be amended as soon as is practically possible. It is your responsibility to ensure that buyers are genuine. Please be aware that various people from 'overseas' may try to offer to buy your item For Sale (This can happen from a classified advert on any website) offering more money usually asking you to pay for shipping after they have paid you (This will mean you pay the shipping costs and other expenses usually a lot of money) Also please remember to ensure cheques have cleared before handing over your items. As Seen on 'BBC Three's- The Real Hustle'. This is how a scam could work as noted on the stolen page: 'At the moment there is a scam going on where somebody answers your ad and offers you £3-5000 or any other amount above your advert. They send a cheque by TNT special delivery paying you for your caravan and asking you to forward the extra £3-5000 or whatever by western union to Lagos, or wherever, to cover the cost of shipping your caravan to Lagos, or wherever. If you are stupid and send this money before the cheque is cleared " YOU HAVE LOST" ' A less elaborate version of this scam also exists with stolen cheques where you are asked to repay the balance of the cheque in cash or with a cheque or they simply use a stolen or forged cheque to try and purchase your item for the correct amount. Do not accept a Cheque unless you have seen the person write AND sign it in front of you even then do not hand over what ever you are selling until the cheque has cleared. This further example has been forwarded on to me recently: 1. They ask for the price, they then ask for the contact details; address, phone, fax - even though the telephone details are on your site. (And the price). NOTE: They will probably not name the item or refer to it as 'the item'. This is the stage to ignore the message, a genuine person would not ask these stupid questions. 2. They informed you that they would agree the price (in this case £275.00) and that the item they were purchasing was one of many and that their courier would be in touch to arrange collection. 3. A cheque arrives (in this case a cheque for £3,275.00) and an email soon follows explaining that they have paid the agreed sum for the item for sale (in this case £275.00) and that the additional amount (in this case £3,000.00) is for the courier. 4. They then have the courier email with extremely well written credentials quoting UK and EU transit law and explaining that they will collect the item and the additional sum for carriage (in my case the £3,000.00). 5. They then asked that I paid the courier the £3,000.00 from my bank account/my personal cheque. This scam was recognised quickly and the details have been handed over with their cheque for £3,275.00 plus the emails to the local police. Please be aware of emails from usually Nigeria or India usually using yahoo email addresses trying the cons mentioned above. Please do not reply to them. Caravanninglinks advices treating advertising on the internet in the same way as your local paper, i.e if selling make sure the buyer comes and looks at your caravan/motorhome/trailer tent etc, let them make an offer and ensure you wait for cheques to clear before handing ANYTHING over (make sure you have seen them write the cheque AND sign it in front of you) DO NOT pay for the courier, that is the buyers responsibility. Other Scams sent by email to watch out for for your information:
